Anson Resources Hits Lithium-Rich Brine at Green River Project

Key Take Away: Anson Resources has successfully extracted supersaturated lithium brine from its Green River Lithium Project in Utah. The flow of high-pressure brine from the Mississippian units confirms the company’s expectations for its second lithium project location in the state. Bulk samples will be used for assaying and processing tests.

Anson Resources (ASX: ASN) announced that it has sampled lithium-rich brine from the recently completed Bosydaba #1 well at its Green River Lithium Project in southeastern Utah. The supersaturated brine, which is denser than normal brine, continued to flow into the well from a depth of over 10,000 feet without needing to stimulate the rock formation. This indicates high pressure and porosity, which helps with extraction.

The company said the brine inflow confirms its interpretation that the Green River project would have similar pressure characteristics to its nearby Paradox Lithium Project. Anson believes the geological setting and regional infrastructure make Green River an ideal location for its second lithium project in Utah.

Bulk samples of the brine have been collected and will be sent to a certified laboratory for analysis of lithium and other minerals. A large volume of brine has also been stored at Anson’s sample demonstration plant for ongoing processing tests. The plant is fully commissioned and can produce high-purity lithium carbonate samples for potential offtake partners.

Anson staked the Green River claims in January 2023 and has been using its experience from the Paradox project to fast-track exploration and delineation of the new project. The company said the Green River area exhibits similar positive geological characteristics to Paradox, including rock types, porosity, and permeability.

The Mississippian rock units encountered in the Bosydaba #1 well were over 740 feet thick, which were possibly greater than at Paradox. Anson said the exploration drilling program was designed to ensure no interaction between surface waters and the deep lithium brines, with impermeable rock layers separating the two.

As demand for lithium continues to grow due to its use in electric vehicle batteries and renewable energy storage, projects like Green River could help diversify supply sources for the critical metal.
